As a scholarly organisation that has members in both Ukraine and Russia, which has published on Russia and Ukraine in our journals, and organised events on both countries, the Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism deplores the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine. The invasion is a grave violation of international law and an attack on a sovereign, democratic state. We particularly condemn the denial of the existence of the Ukrainian nation implicit in Vladimir Putin’s statements.
We hope that peace can quickly be restored; our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, and particularly our members and other fellow academics.
