Notes for presenters

We know presenting your research can be a nerve-wracking experience, but ASEN conferences are friendly and welcoming events and we very much hope you won’t feel under any pressure. The main thing is to enjoy yourself! We’ve put answers to some questions we often get about presenting below, but please don’t hesitate to email us at conference@asen.ac.uk if there’s anything else you want to know.

What format are the panels?
Each panel has a chair and three or four speakers. The chair will introduce the session, and then each speaker will give their presentation. There will be time for questions from the audience at the end of each session.

How long should I speak for?
If your panel has three papers, up to twenty minutes; if your panel has four papers, up to fifteen minutes. This leaves approximately twenty-five minutes for questions. The panel chair will let you know when you have five and two minutes left.

Can I use slides/video/audio?
Each room has a computer and you are welcome to use slides etc., although there is no requirement to do so. If you are using slides etc., we would ask you to bring them on a USB stick.

Do I have to submit the paper in advance?
No. We only publish abstracts in the programme.

What should I wear?
There is no dress code – just make sure you’re comfortable!
