Updates

As we have updates to share, we will put them here, including information on transport, the conference dinner, accommodation, and more! For the time being, here are some frequently asked questions. If you do have any queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Updates

Update #5 – 8th April 2024 – The best laid plans…
Unfortunately, we have been let down by our printer and so we won’t have physical copies of the programme available, although the PDF is available to download.

Update #4 – 8th March 2024 – The schedule
We’re delighted to say that the conference schedule is now available!

Update #3 – 7th March 2024 – Delay to programme
We had hoped to have the full programme posted online today, as per the timeline. It’s taking us a bit longer than expected, and it will now be up tomorrow, 7th March.

Update #2 – 7th January 2024 – Smith Lecture
The Anthony D. Smith Lecture will now take place on 9th April, with a reception afterwards. Don’t worry if you’re arriving on the 8th – we’re organising an informal get-together.

Update #1 – 30th October 2023 – Deadline extension
We’ve extended the deadline to submit abstracts to 2359 on 17th November 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where exactly is the conference taking place?
A: The Old College at the University of Edinburgh [map].

Q: Do we need to submit a full paper in advance?
A: No. We only publish the abstracts in the programme.

Q: How long should my presentation be?
A: Up to twenty minutes.

Q: Can I use PowerPoint/Google Slides/Prezi/etc.?
A: Yes, each room has a computer and projector. We suggest bringing your slides on a USB stick or emailing them to yourself.

Q: Is there any funding available for the conference?
A: We regret that we are unable to provide any financial support for the conference.

Q: Can I participate remotely?
A: We have tried remote participation in the past and we have not been able to make it work reliably. It is something we hope offer in the future, but it is not something we can offer for the 2024 conference, although the plenaries will be livestreamed.

We do recognise that the answers to the two questions above have the effect of making it a lot harder for a lot of people, particularly from the global south, to attend the conference. We are working on changing that for the future, but it’s not something we’re able to do at the moment.

Q: How much will registration cost?
A: £90 for students and £170 for non-students

Q: Can you help with obtaining a visa?
A: Yes. Once you have registered for the conference, we will happily issue a letter in support of a visa application.

Q: Can you help with accommodation in Edinburgh?
A: On registering, you will receive an email with a link for discounted accommodation in Edinburgh.
